Missouri River flood in Kansas City district officially over

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The longest flooding event in the history of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’s Kansas City district is officially over, with all stages on the Missouri River below flooding for the first time since March 13, the district announced Monday.

Col. Bill Hannan, the commander of the Kansas City district, said in a news release that operations would return to normal, 279 days after the Emergency Operations Center was activated because of flooding on the Missouri.

He said all the stages within the Kansas City district dropped below flood stage last Wednesday and the water levels are expected to continue to drop.

The Kansas City District has notified levee sponsors they have until Jan. 15 to submit written requests for rehabilitation assistance, if a request has not already been submitted.
