This week is Work Zone Awareness Week, and the City of West Plains would like to remind drivers to slow down and pay attention as they travel through work zones in West Plains and around the state.
The week is a nation-wide reminder of the potential dangers of driving through work zones. Although right now traffic levels are lighter than normal due to the Covid-19 pandemic, local law enforcement is seeing a corresponding increase in speeding. After stay at home orders are lifted the traffic will increase as will seasonal construction jobs on city roadways.
“Our work zones can change from day to day and even hour to hour as crews work on many different projects throughout the city. We may have a crew fixing a water main leak while on the next street a crew is fixing potholes. We just ask that you slow down, pay attention and stay off phones to be aware of your surroundings when traveling,” City Administrator Tom Stehn stated.
