Former major leaguer Lindy McDaniel dies

Former St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Lindy McDaniel died Saturday. He was 84.

According to a family friend, McDaniel died of Covid-19 Saturday in a Dallas suburb.

McDaniel broke into the majors with St. Louis in 1955 and won 15 games as a starter at the age of 19.

Two years later he was moved to the bullpen where he spent the majority of his 21-year career.

He was a national league all star in 1960 and led the league in saves 3 times.

His best year was with the New York Yankees in 1970 when he saved 29 games.

Along with the Cardinals and Yankees, McDaniel also played for the Cubs, Giants and Royals.

He had 2 brothers who also played professionally, Vonn and Kerry.
