COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball redshirt junior S Andrea Fuentes was named the Week Six Southeastern Conference Co-Setter of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Monday marks Mizzou’s 61st all-time weekly SEC Player of the Week honor. Individually, Fuentes now has seven career SEC Setter of the Week awards on her resume. The San Juan native has claimed the recognition twice this season, first earning the award in week two (Oct. 19-25).
“Andrea was fantastic this past weekend at Ole Miss and consistently put our offense in great positions to succeed,” said Mizzou Volleyball head coach Joshua Taylor. “She got a lot of different people involved in both matches, making it tough for Ole Miss’ defense. She also did a great job personally in adding an offensive threat and kept their defense on their heels. Overall this fall, she routinely pushed the right buttons and ran our offense extremely well.”
With Fuentes orchestrating the offense, Mizzou produced 107 kills (11.89 per set) on an outstanding .317 collective hitting percentage in back to back wins against the Rebels (Nov. 20-21). The Tigers’ attack hit .300-plus in seven of nine total sets played at Ole Miss, highlighted by a pair of .500-plus hitting performances in sets one and four in their series finale against the Rebels.
Mizzou’s overall .369 hitting percentage last Saturday marked the SEC’s eighth-highest single-match team hitting performance this fall. Individually, Fuentes posted her fourth match this fall with 40-plus assists in last Friday’s series-opening win.
The talented Tiger setter was also an offensive threat at the net at Ole Miss, registering six kills on fantastic .455 hitting. Fuentes produced at least one kill in all eight matches this fall, including five contests with multiple kills.
She ended her fall campaign with 10.19 overall assists per set, ranking 18th in the NCAA and fourth in the SEC. Additionally, Fuentes’ 326 total assists ranks 23rd nationally and third-best in the conference. Behind her guidance, Mizzou’s .290 final fall hitting percentage ranks fifth in the nation and second in the SEC, while its 13.50 kills per set ranks 13th in the NCAA and second-best in the conference.
