One For All Missouri: COVID-19 Vaccine Information

The first phase of vaccination against COVID-19 is under way in Missouri, with some members of priority groups already receiving their second doses of vaccines. But with vaccination still months away for most residents, local public health experts with the One for All Missouri campaign are urging Missourians to continue to take steps to stop the spread of COVID-19.

  • The state of Missouri is currently vaccinating residents that fall under Phase 1A: healthcare workers and long-term care facility staff and residents.
    • The goal is to decrease death and disease as much as possible. Your place in line will depend on your age, profession, and health risks.
    • Essential workers and high-risk populations will be next in line to get the vaccine as more doses become available in the coming weeks.
  • As residents within Phase 1A begin receiving the second dose of the vaccine, they are more likely to experience side effects.
    • Side effects are a normal part of vaccination and usually last for one or two days.
    • After getting a vaccine, the body launches an immune response that may produce symptoms such as exhaustion or tiredness, muscle pain, chills, and fever.
    • These symptoms are a positive sign that the body is building immunity.
    • These side effects do not mean the recipient is sick with COVID-19. The vaccine does not contain the live virus of COVID-19 and cannot give recipients the virus.
  • Like all vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines have undergone rigorous testing and approvals to ensure that they are not dangerous to people.
    • Reference this webpage for more information on COVID-19 vaccines, including common myths and frequently asked questions.
  • While we wait for most of the population to get vaccinated, we need to continue taking steps to stop the spread.
    • The vaccine may not be available to all Missourians for many months – maybe even well into 2021.
    • Protect yourself and the health of others by continuing safety steps like mask wearing, physical distancing and hand washing.
