COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Volleyball senior OH Kylie Deberg was named Week Seven Southeastern Conference Volleyball Overall and Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
“Kylie has been carrying a heavy load for Mizzou for a couple of years now and all the while she’s still making improvements to her game,” said Mizzou Volleyball head coach Joshua Taylor. “She stepped up in big moments in both of this past weekend’s matches. She’s very deserving of these recognitions and I can’t wait to see how she continues to improve this spring!”
It marks the third time this 2020-21 campaign that Deberg has received both Overall and Offensive SEC Player of the Week accolades. She also received the honors in week four (Nov. 2-8) and week two (Oct. 19-25) of the fall season.
Deberg has now produced 13 all-time SEC weekly honors over her three-year Mizzou career. The Hudson, Iowa, native has garnered Overall SEC Player of the Week honors five times in her Tigers tenure and Offensive SEC Player of the Week accolades on eight occasions.
This past weekend in Mizzou’s spring 2021 season-series opener against LSU (Jan. 29-30), Deberg produced back-to-back 20-plus kill outings inside the Hearnes Center. She totaled 47 kills (4.70 per set) on a strong .270 hitting clip in the Tigers’ series sweep.
Deberg’s consecutive 20-plus kill outings marked her fifth and sixth 20-plus kill matches this season. She opened her weekend with 24 kills on sensational .305 hitting, marking her fourth match this campaign with 20-plus kills on .300-plus hitting. Deberg closed her series against LSU with 23 kills and 11 digs, securing her team-leading fourth double-double this season.
Entering this week’s action, Deberg leads the SEC in total kills (194), kills per set (4.62), total aces (21), total points (228.5) and points per set (5.44). Nationally, she ranks 12th in points per set, 12th in total aces, 15th in total points, 17th in kills per set and 19th in total kills.
After registering 47 total kills against the Tigers from Baton Rouge, Deberg now possesses 1,173 kills for her Mizzou career, moving into 10th place overall in program history. Additionally, she posted two aces against LSU and now stands with 130 for her career. Deberg now owns sole possession of fifth place in Mizzou career individual total aces.
