Mizzou Baseball Earns 2-1 Win Over Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS – Mizzou Baseball (4-9) earned a 2-1 win at Saint Louis on Wednesday night behind stellar pitching from senior Lukas Veinbergs and freshman Ian Lohse.

Making his second career start, Veinbergs spun another gem to last a career-long 5.2 innings. The right-hander struck out a career-best eight Billikens while scattering five hits to surrender just a single run.

Mizzou jumped to an early 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI-single from senior Chad McDaniel. The Tigers would maintain their edge until the fifth when Saint Louis used a two-out RBI of its own to draw even. A sinking line drive eluded the diving effort of freshman center fielder Ross Lovich and chased home the Billikens’ first marker of the day.

The Tigers would regain the lead in the seventh when redshirt senior Brandt Belk roped a one-out double into right center. An error on a pick-off attempt moved Belk to third and a wild pitch allowed the left fielder to cross the plate. Lohse worked the final 3.1 innings to earn his first career victory.

HEAR FROM THE SKIPPER

Head coach Steve Bieser on Veinbergs second-straight strong start…

“If you’re going to win consistently, you have to get good starting pitching. Lukas went back-to-back for his starts and that’s something we need to see more often.”
