Big Sixth Inning Propels Mizzou to Series Win

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (10-17, 3-6 SEC) captured its first SEC series victory of the year with a 7-3 win over Texas A&M (19-10, 3-6 SEC) in Saturday’s finale at Taylor Stadium.

After Texas A&M built a 2-0 lead through two innings, Mizzou responded with a pair of runs of its own in the third to draw even. Sophomore Ty Wilmsmeyer sparked the inning with a lead-off single. Senior Brandt Belk drove in the first run with a double off the first base bag before fifth-year Andrew Keefer legged out an infield single to plate the tying run.

Trailing 3-2, Wilmsmeyer put Mizzou on top with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth. Two batters later, sophomore Torin Montgomery uncorked a three-run blast to right center field to put the Tigers on top 7-3.

Junior Jacob Kush (2-0) worked three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the win. The outing was a career-long for Kush and the right-hander racked up a career-best five strikeouts.

“Just a really good performance. We didn’t play the perfect game, but boy did we compete all day long. We had some tough spots and battled through that… We showed a lot of character today. We’ve just got to continue to build off these last two games.”
