The City of West Plains is accepting applications for a City Clerk. This position will serve as City Clerk according to the code of ordinances for the City of West Plains in the manner listed in Section 2-129 through 2-160 and be responsible for all records.
• Prepare meeting packets including ordinances, resolutions and agendas while working closely with the city administrator, legal counsel, and council.
• Execute and distribute ordinances, resolutions, and minutes.
• Send any ordinances to Municipal Code that should be codified. Maintain public relations with the public and news media. Respond to all Sunshine Law requests for public records in a timely manner, documenting and billing costs as allowable by law.
• Arrange city elections for council and special issues.
• Oversee the process of appointing members to boards and commissions, including notifying the public of vacancies, processing applications for council approval, and tracking the terms of various members through completion of their terms.
• Post all agendas and minutes to the city website monthly.
• Have custody and maintain safekeeping of the city seal, public records, original rolls of ordinances and such other records, documents, and papers.
• Keep and inventory of records on file and systematically destroy records after they have reached their retention period unless keeping for historical purposes.
• Index all council and board minutes, ordinances, and resolutions for quick retrieval.
Must be 21 years of age or older. Must be a US Citizen. High School graduate or GED certificate and three years of applicable experience. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred and may substitute for years of experience.
