- LOUIS – A total of 26 current and former Missouri State University football players were honored Wednesday by the Missouri Valley Football Conference for academic excellence during the fall 2020 academic term.
Former MSU offensive lineman Charles Carter earned the league’s highest academic honor in the President’s Council Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average (through the fall 2020 semester) and participation in athletics a minimum of two years. The student-athletes receiving this award must also be within 18 hours of graduation. A total of 37 players throughout the 11-team league received the MVFC’s highest honor this year.
Four Bears were also on the list for the MVFC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum GPA of 3.2 for the previous two semesters (freshmen are not eligible.). Including current Bears Jordan Murray and Isaac Smith and former players Derek Kohler and Charles Carter, a total of 281 players league-wide earned this honor.
Additionally, a total of 26 MSU players were recognized on the 2020 MVFC Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes who recorded a minimum 3.0 grade point average for the fall 2020 semester. These individuals must have been a member of the football team and must have a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment during the fall. Missouri State’s qualifiers on this elite list include: Armand Baker, Grant Burkett, Brock Carter, Charles Carter, Reece Dawson, Logan Decker, Michael Fangman, Sean Fitzgerald, Grant Goodson, Dalton Hill, Derek Kohler, Ethan Mackowski, Celdon Manning, Kyriq McDonald, Jordan Murray, Jose Pizano, Michael Pope, Kellen Porter, Isaac Smith, Matt Struck, Ryan Suliafu, Ethan Swanegan, Ron Tiavaasue, Bryant Ulrich, Jeremy Webb, Hunter Wood. Sixteen of those players are on the roster this fall for coach Bobby Petrino’s Bears.
Nearly 800 student-athletes from around the league earned Honor Roll recognition.
