COLUMBIA, Mo. – Following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, former University of Missouri football head coach Warren Powers passed away on Tuesday, November 2, in St. Louis.
Powers was Mizzou’s head coach for seven seasons (1978-84). He compiled a record of 46-33-3 (.580). Only three coaches – Gary Pinkel, Don Faurot and Dan Devine – have coached more or won more games in school history than Powers.
The 1983 Associated Press National Coach of the Year, Powers’ teams made five bowl appearances (3-2) during his tenure. The Tigers finished the season ranked nationally in three of his seven seasons.
He played collegiately at the University of Nebraska and spent six seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He was a starting safety for the 1967 Super Bowl Champions.
