Late Tuesday night, the Cards agreed to a four-year, $44 million deal with left-hander Steven Matz, a source told MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, bringing to St. Louis a crucial depth option for the starting rotation that was missing a left-handed look — and one that leans heavily into his ground-ball acumen. Matz, 30, is coming off a revitalized season in which he pitched to a 3.82 ERA across 29 starts for the surging Blue Jays.
