FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 17 University of Missouri softball (3-2) will face off with Florida Gulf Coast (2-2) on Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. CT. The game will stream live on FGCU Softball’s YouTube page.
The Tigers finished the weekend at the Northern Lights invitational with a 3-2 record. Mizzou picked up a Top 25 win over No. 24 Liberty but fell against No. 10/13 Virginia Tech and UConn.
Jordan Weber stood out for Missouri in the circle. The junior went 2-0 on the weekend with a 1.11 ERA and 14 strikeouts. Opposing batters held a batting average of only .089 for the entire weekend. In her season debut, she brought a no-hit bid into the sixth inning. She finished with 10 strikeouts over six innings in the win over Penn State, marking only the second time in her career that she has finished with double-digit strikeouts. Ultimately, she was named to the Northern Lights All-Tournament team.
Reigning SEC Freshman of the Year Jenna Laird had a big weekend for the Tigers as well. Laird batted .438 with two doubles, a home run, and three RBI. She stole three bases and made some crucial plays in the field. Laird led the team with five runs scored. She accounted for three of Mizzou’s nine extra-base hits on the weekend, including the sole home run.
Alex Honnold impressed with the bat and the glove on the weekend. Starting in right field for all five games, Honnold showed some power with the bat. Against No. 24 Liberty, she went 2-for-4 with two doubles, marking the first time she has hit two extra-base hits in a single game.
