LEESBURG, Fla. – No. 17 University of Missouri softball fell to Maryland in the final game of The Spring Games by a score of 1-0. The Terrapins walked it off in the seventh with a single through the left side, handing the Tigers their first loss of the weekend.
Jordan Weber put together another impressive outing, going 5.2 innings while allowing only one hit and striking out seven. Weber brought a no-hit bid into the sixth inning where it was broken up with a one-out single.
The Tigers were unable to bring home any baserunners, leaving 11 runners stranded. Mizzou had a runner reach base in every inning.
The Tigers’ best opportunity came in the seventh. With the score tied at zero, Mizzou loaded the bases with a Jenna Laird single, a Kendyll Bailey walk and a Kimberly Wert HBP. Honnold barreled a ball to the right side, but the second baseman was playing in the right spot for the final out of the inning.
Maryland was able to get things going quickly after a Mizzou error allowed the Maryland runner to reach second base with nobody out. After the Terrapins bunted the runner to third, a single through the left side gave Maryland the win.
NOTES
Jenna Laird went 3-for-4 on the day with two stolen bases.
Alex Honnold reached base in three of her four plate appearances. She went 1-for-2 with a double and a pair of walks.
Maryland employed a pitching rotation, swapping between three different pitchers throughout the game situationally.
Mizzou pitching finished the weekend allowing only five runs over five games.

The Tigers will head to the Mary Nutter Invitational in Cathedral City, California for five games from Feb. 25-27.
