Mountain Grove Alum Coffman Leads Valor Contingent of Four All-Heart Honorees

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Led by Cade Coffman‘s third consecutive All-Heart of America Athletic Conference selection, four Evangel men’s basketball standouts were cited Tuesday for postseason honors by the league’s coaches.

In addition to Coffman’s first-team selection, junior Josh Pritchett was chosen for second-team honors, while Manrique Alvarado and Edriel Martinborough were tabbed for honorable mention recognition.

Coffman enters the Heart Conference Tournament averaging 16.1 points and 6.2 rebounds, while ranking fifth in the league in three-point field goals (70). The senior from Mountain Grove, Mo., ranks among the Valor’s top 10 all-time scorers (1,652), rebounders (716) and three-point shooters (204).

Pritchett has been a force for the Valor all season, but particularly in Heart Conference play, averaging 14.5 points while shooting 0.420 from beyond the arc in 17 league games. The junior from Rolla, Mo., leads EU and ranks 10th in the Heart in both assists (102) and steals (42).

Alvarado enjoyed a breakthrough sophomore season, averaging 10.3 points 3.5 assists and shooting a team-leading 0.809 from the free-throw line. A native of Cartago, Costa Rica, he averaged 11.4 points per outing during league play and recorded 15 double-digit scoring performances for the season.

Martinborough averaged 10.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game during the regular season. The Grand Bahama Island native enters Wednesday’s Heart Conference Tournament contest with 1,160 career points over his four-year career at Evangel. He also ranks among the Valor’s all-time leaders in rebounds (448), three-point field goals (99), assists (272) and blocks (39).

Evangel (20-8) opens play in the Heart Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament Wednesday (Feb. 23) with a 6 p.m., quarterfinal round matchup with Mount Mercy at the Ashcroft Center.
