Houston, MO. – The Texas County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public of a new scam going around. Scammers will call you and state they are with a process serving company and are trying to locate you. Even if you agree to meet, they either do not show, or they call back asking for money and tell you they will forget about serving you. These scammers have provided a couple of different numbers to call and there is a greeting set up that says they are a process serving company. When you press the option to talk to someone, they ask for personally identifiable information. Do not give this out.
The Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office serve papers. There are also private process servers that are used by law firms that are not associated with the Sheriff’s Office. It is rare that a Deputy or a process server will contact you by phone regarding paper service. If they have something for you, the Deputy or process server already have an address to come visit you at.
If you have concerns that someone is trying to reach you for process service, you may call the Sheriff’s Office, or if they claim to be a private process server you can contact Court Offices in the county you live to see if there has been any paperwork issued for you.
Stay safe, protect your information, and if you have questions just call the Texas County Sheriff’s Office at (417) 967-4165.
