West Plains Resident Arrested for Trafficking Drugs

West Plains, MO. – A West Plains woman was arrested on drug trafficking charges on Wednesday, following a traffic stop. On March 30, 2022, at approximately 10:57 p.m., Corporal Derek Hughston with the Howell County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on County Road 8690 in West Plains for failure to illuminate with a white light the rear registration marker and render it clearly legible from a distance of fifty feet to the rear. Contact was made with two occupants of the vehicle and with reasonable suspicion developed; a K9 team was requested to respond to the scene.
 
Deputy Weaver responded with his K9 partner, Otis and conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle’s exterior. K9 Otis gave positive indication for the odor of narcotics within the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted. As a result, the following items were located within the vehicle;
Two (2) bags of suspected methamphetamine weighing in total approximately 235.6 grams (approximately ½ pound) including packaging materials on uncertified scales.
One (1) containing 204 suspected heroin/fentanyl caps weighing approximately 23 grams including packaging materials on uncertified scales.
One (1) bag containing suspected cocaine weighing approximately 13.9 grams including packaging materials on uncertified scales.
 
A sum of US Currency in excess of $2,600 dollars located in the vehicle and on the suspects person.
 
Amanda J. Jones was placed under arrest for trafficking drugs 1st Degree and transported to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office where she was booked and charges have been forwarded to the Howell County Prosecutor’s Office.
