Missouri – According to a recent report released by MoDOT, due to various complications from inflation, Covid, employment problems, and other factors, the Department of Transportation is over budget by roughly 140 million dollars.
The budget for the 2022 fiscal year was 3.1 billion dollars, with it set to end sometime next month. This problem, however, brings into question the possibility of projected improvements to Missouri infrastructure. The current proposal of budget for MoDOT’s 2023 fiscal year is set at 3.5 billion dollars, and is awaiting approval from the Governor.
The increase in budget comes at the reasoning that materials cost more with the impact of inflation across the country, and not due to workers being paid more. In fact, it’s reported that many in MoDOT make wages that are below market value, despite a recent wage increase.
