Miles Mikolas was a strike away from history in the Cardinals 9-1 win over the Pirates in the second game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium. Mikolas had a no-hitter through eight-and-two-thirds innings and had Cal Mitchell down to his final strike. Mitchell hit a ground-rule double to break up the no-no, but Mikolas still earned his fifth win of the season. Paul Goldschmidt hit two home runs and drove in five, while Tommy Edman also went deep. St. Louis has won five of six. Bryse Wilson was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs in five innings. The Pirates are on a nine-game losing streak.

Matthew Liberatore earned his second career win after tossing five shutout innings, and Giovanny Gallegos picked up his ninth save.
