Janice Rosemary (Colgan) Smikle, was born February 18, 1947, to Walter and Juanita Colgan, at their home near Marshfield, Missouri. She departed this life October 2, 2022, at Cox Health Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri. She was 75 years, 7 months, and 14 days of age.
Janice married Darrell Smikle June 7, 1964, on the Smikle farm. They were high school sweethearts at Fordland High School. Janice worked at Zenith in Springfield, Missouri for 17 years, and she worked at Hometown Furniture in Rogersville, Missouri for 5 years.
Janice was very talented and had many accomplishments. She enjoyed weaving, wood carving, decorating wedding cakes and birthday cakes, oil painting, photography, and helping on the farm. Her greatest joy in life was antiques. She was an “Antique Picker” before they were popular. She was in charge of many antique shows in Springfield, Missouri, throughout the years, and she was also very involved in the Springfield Garage Sale at Remington’s.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, father, Walter, mother, Juanita, stepfather, Alvin, brother, Eddie Colgan, and godson, Michael Pettit.
She will be mourned by her son, Daren, sister, Dana, nephew, Justin and his wife, Keesha, and their children, Cole and Megan, aunt, Dorothy, aunt, Boots, uncle, Clovis, two grandbabies, Braleighh and Brinleighh, godson, Matthew Pettit, special friends, Mindy and James, and a host of other friends. She also loved her dogs, Sadie and Dallas, with all of her heart.
In the last few years her health gave her many problems. Diabetes and cancer made her life unlivable. Janice loved life and lived it to the fullest. She got as much out of each day as possible. She loved her family and friends unconditionally, and her presence will always be with us. Rest in peace, Sweet Pea.
