Zizzer Swim Team

The West Plains High School Zizzer Swim Team made history recently hosting it’s first-ever indoor home meet.  The event was held at the West Plains Civic Center where the team went 3-0 in Duals and  won 1st place in 9 of 11 events.   This brings the Zizzer Swim Team’s dual record to 14-2 on the season. “It was great to see people show up to support these Zizzers at their first meet at the Civic Center!  The boys put on a great performance and showcased the talent that this Zizzer Swim Team possesses,” remarked Head Coach Ryan Smith.  Some of those achievements included swims by Junior Elias Curtis in the  200 meter Freestyle (2:08.72), Senior Isaac Kammerer in the 100 meter Butterfly (1:03.68), Junior Avery Miller’s 100 meter Breaststroke (1:17.39), all first place wins.

The Zizzers then took to the road to compete in the Monett Invitational where they finished 2nd place overall and brought home medals in 14 of 21 events.  1st place finishes included Kammerer in the 200 yard Individual Medley and 500 yard Freestyle events, Miller in the 100 yard Freestyle, and the 400 yard Freestyle Relay (Junior Dawson Fiorino, Kammerer, Curtis, and Miller).  Additional highlight performances included Senior Ethan Squires (1:16.02) and Senior Landen Johnson (1:17.97) in the 100 yard Breaststroke and Freshman Bryson Kittrell in the 200 yard Freestyle (2:29.48) with a 9-second time drop.   Coach Smith remarked, “The Zizzer swimmers competed hard on Saturday and easily finished 2nd place as a team.  I was proud of their 14 medals in 21 events but also having every swimmer contribute to the scoring (with points earned in 19 of 21 events)!  I look forward to seeing how the next few weeks of hard work will pay off at the Ozark Conference Championships.”

Kristi Sheridan, Head Coach of the Waves Swim Club, recently spearheaded the project to equip the Civic Center pool to be able to host swim meets.  “I would once again like to thank the sponsors that generously supported the purchase of swim blocks.  We are very thankful for the community’s support and for the Waves Swim Club donors,” she said.   The Zizzer swim team also thanks those who “pooled” their resources to “Make It Happen Here”!
