Bringing out over 150-200 coats to children across several Douglas County Schools, this gift of warmth was started mostly out a need seen during Shop-With-A-Cop, according to the Douglas County Sheriff, Chris Degase.

“We had a lot of parents who had a list for the kids, and on the lists was a coat…”, he goes on to state. “The following year, we started the Coats for Kids Program here at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. We’re probably up over 2 or 3 thousand coats that we’ve handed out over the years.”

Local businesses donate year-round to this program in order to assist with this program, and while coats have been distributed, donations are always accepted. For more information on this program or to learn how to donate, call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at (417) 683-1020
