Birch Tree Woman Rescued by First Responders in Icy Creek After Saturday Crash

Eminence, MO. – Both emergency responders and local community members rescued a 73-year-old woman on Saturday, February 4th, after she crashed her vehicle into an icy creek.

Geraldine Rader was the driver of a Ford F-150, who was travelling along County Road 504 near Eminence, when she skidded on ice in the roadway. This caused her to strike a road sign and slide off a low-water bridge, landing in a creek.

In response, the Eminence Area Volunteer Fire Department, Shannon County Sherriff’s Deputies, Shannon County First Responders, and a number of locals came together to rescue the woman. She was extricated through the roof of the vehicle and treated on-scene before being flown to Mercy in Springfield for further recovery.

Rader was not wearing her safety device and suffered serious injuries.

The Missouri Highway Patrolman who investigated the crash was Trooper J.J. Smith of Troop G.
