Ava, MO. – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals from out-of-state on February 19th for drug possession charges.
The two arrested include Stacey DeWitt, 42 of Albuquerque, NM, and Joseph McCormick, 42 of Fort Walton, FL. This happened as a result of a traffic stop made by Deputy Evans when he suspected a vehicle of being driven under the influence.
Upon contacting the driver, Evans concluded DeWitt was likely under the influence, and called in K9 Amigo to assist in a search. Amigo alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics, and a full search was conducted.
Located in the vehicle were 6 grams of methamphetamine, a firearm, and a mix of various items of drug paraphernalia.
DeWitt is facing 2 charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Use and Possession of a Weapon, DWI, Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Maintaining Financial Responsibility.
McCormick faces similar charges of 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Use and Possession of a Weapon. They both have bonds set at $5,000.
