Slaughter Named Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri women’s basketball team’s incoming recruit Grace Slaughter has been named the Missouri Gatorade Missouri Girls Basketball Player of the Year as announced by the corporation on Wednesday.

Slaughter, the 53rd-ranked recruit in the class of 2023 averaged 27.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals this season at Grain Valley High School. The Tigers signee led the Eagles to an appearance in the Class 6, District 7 title game.

A two-time First Team All-State selection, Slaughter won a gold medal with the Team USA Under-16 National Team at the FIBA Americas championships in 2021. She ended her prep career with 2,575 points.

In the classroom, Slaughter maintained a weighted 4.42 GPA

Next fall, the incoming guard will join the Missouri senior Hayley Frank, the state’s 2018 award winner, in a Tigers’ uniform.

The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The Gatorade Player of the Year Selection Committee administers the selection process, which leverages experts including coaches, scouts, media, and others as sources to help evaluate and determine the state winners in each sport.
