Local Counties to Receive Over 700k for Jail Improvements & Maintenace

The Missouri Department of Public Safety approved a total of $9.9 million in grants to various Sheriff’s Offices within Missouri for improvements, maintenance, and security. Over $700 thousand of those funds are coming to our local area, split between 3 counties.

Governor Parson stated in a press release regarding these funds that he understands the importance of adequate security in jails due to his previous experience as a sheriff. He goes on to state these grants are an investment in jail infrastructure that will help provide better working conditions in jails across the state.

The money for this comes from ARPA funds, and was a part of the 2023 Missouri fiscal year budget plan.

The three counties in our area that will receive funding include Oregon County at $126,250, Shannon County at $400,542.62, and Texas County at $191,181.50.

The only stipulation for these funds were that counties were required to match these funds at a value of 50%.
