Joel Hofer has been added to the 2023 IIHF World Championship roster for Team Canada.
The 22-year-old goaltender spent the majority of the past season with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds, posting a 27-15-5 record to go along with a 2.50 goals-against average, a .921 save percentage and five shutouts.
In eight NHL appearances over the last two seasons, Hofer has posted a 4-2-1 record with a 3.18 goals-against average and a .900 save-percentage.
Hofer joins St. Louis Blues teammates Sammy Blais and Jake Neighbours on Team Canada’s roster.
The World Championship will feature players from 16 countries and begins May 12. The teams will be divided into two groups and will compete in a preliminary round-robin to determine seeding for the tournament. The top four teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals as they pursue the tournament’s top prize – a gold medal – which will be awarded on May 28.
