Rep. Travis Smith named 2023 West Plains School Alumnus of the Year

West Plains, MO. – The West Plains School District recognized State Representative Travis Smith as the 2023 Distinguished Zizzer Alumnus of the Year during the W.P.H.S. Graduation ceremony on Friday, May 12. Smith, a 1986 West Plains High School graduate, was chosen for this honor “in recognition of his exceptional achievements and significant contributions to his community,” according to a public statement from the school.

After graduating from West Plains, Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Missouri and an MBA from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. He has been a philanthropist and business owner in the community. Smith served many years as a West Plains award-winning cross-country team track coach. Additionally, he spent many years giving Zizzer football play-by-plays on KKDY radio, sharing his love for sports with the community.

In 2020, Smith was elected District 155 Missouri State Representative.
