SMCHC celebrates 20 years in West Plains

West Plains, MO. – The Southern Missouri Community Health Center in West Plains celebrated 20 years of operation with a ribbon cutting, an employee appreciation event, and a big announcement.

The Southern Missouri Community Health Center (SMCHC) opened its doors in February 2003 after nearly two years of meetings, plans, and construction that began with community members of Howell and Oregon counties with the assistance of the Missouri Primary Care Association met to pursue section 330 funding to create a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in West Plains, Missouri.

Since its opening, SMCHC has added family dental and mental health to the services it provides. During the ribbon cutting ceremony held by the Greater West Plains Area Chamber of Commerce on May 16, the center announced their West Plains office would be expanding.

According to the blueprints available, many exam rooms will be added for medical and dental exams. Additionally, an awning will be constructed before the main entrance with a drop-off area for patients.
