The Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) has awarded a grant of $2,045 to the West Plains Council on the Arts, Inc. (WPCA) in support of the project “Young Writers Workshops.” The MHC is the only statewide agency in Missouri devoted exclusively to humanities education for citizens of all ages. It has served as a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities since 1971.
The program will span July 10th-14th and will consist of five 3-hour sessions from 1-4 PM each day. Monday through Thursday will be geared towards 9 to 14-year-olds, and Friday’s target audience will be 15 to 18-year-olds.
Four presenters – Dr. Brooks Blevins, Abby Hess, David Malone, and Annie England Noblin will give insight into writing poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and journalism. Friday’s program will feature Leigh Adams and Taj Singh presenting on scholarship applications and resume prep for high school-aged students.
