Doris J. Medley was born on May 3, 1935, in Shannon County, Missouri, the youngest child of Frank J. and Lucy (Melton) Sutton. She departed this life on June 1, 2023, at the age of 88 years.
She attended grade school at Owls Bend and Eminence, and graduated from high school in Eminence in 1953. Doris taught one year at Button Rock, a country school, at 18 years of age, riding a horse and crossing Current River to get there. She was Clerk for the Selective Service System for Shannon County for ten years and then worked for Mark Twain National Forest at Winona, Missouri, for 18 years, retiring in 1994. Doris was united in marriage to Gordon L. Medley on October 9, 1953. Their union together was 52 years. They had three children, two sons, Sutton Leroy and Robert Sutton, and one daughter, Cindy Jean.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lucy; husband, Gordon L. Medley; one infant son, Sutton Leroy; sister, Alma Ruth McBride; brother-in-law, James H. “Pete” McBride; brother, Euel L. Sutton; and sister-in-law, Mayo Sutton.
She is survived by one son, Robert Sutton Medley and wife, Ruth of Bolivar, MO; one daughter, Cindy Pollock and husband, Bruce of LaHarpe, IL; four grandchildren, Danielle Seiner and husband, Nick, Caleb Medley and wife, Meaghan, Ashlin Brewer and husband, Derek, and Morgan Drewes and husband, Danny; ten great-grandchildren, Drake Sutton Seiner, Cora Marie Seiner, Brenton Walker Seiner, Clark Sutton Medley, Opal Maeve Medley, Griffin Copeland Brewer, Gracen Brooke Brewer, Lincoln Daniel Drewes, Will Sutton Drewes, and Saylor Ruth Drewes; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Doris loved being a grandma to her four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Gordon and Doris spent many happy hours on the golf course in Eminence and going with special friends, Gary and Carol Smith, to different courses. She also was a close follower of Redwings basketball, baseball, and volleyball teams, MU basketball, and the St. Louis Cardinals. She accepted Jesus at an early age and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Eminence, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Yarber Mortuary, Eminence, Missouri with Carl and Charles Younger officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30-3:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Munsell Cemetery, Eminence. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
