Elsie B Curtis

Elsie Beulah Curtis, of Norwood, Missouri, passed away on June 24, 2023. Born on February 28, 1933, in Bakersfield, Missouri, Elsie was 90 years, 3 months, and 27 days of age. Elsie was the loving daughter of John and Goldie Hicks. She was a dedicated and humble woman, known for her thoughtfulness and devotion to her family and faith. As an active member of Cold Spring Baptist Church, Elsie lived by the verse, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).

Elsie was a talented homemaker and farmer, and for a time, she worked at Brown Shoe and was the beloved lunch lady for Norwood Schools. Her love for her family was evident in the way she cherished her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Elsie made every holiday special, particularly Christmas and the Fourth of July, with her extraordinary cooking and baking skills. Her famous chicken and noodles, homemade rolls, and ice cream brought love and joy to her family gatherings. In her spare time, Elsie nurtured her passion for gardening, both vegetable as well as her flower gardens as Elsie relished tending to her beautiful roses and carnations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Goldie Hicks; her husband, Byron Curtis; her son, Larry Curtis; her grandson, BJ Curtis; and her siblings, Amy Collins, Ruby Proctor, Gene Hicks, Fay Goss, Sarah Downs, Freda Downs, Leona Hicks and Dewayne Hicks.

Elsie is survived by her children, Debra Massey, Junior (Colleen) Curtis, and Brenda (Verl) Brown; her siblings, Sharon Smith and Ray Hicks; her grandchildren, Ryan Curtis, April (Brandon) Mayberry, Andy (Autumn) Brown, Tracy (Bobby) Cottengim, Lindsey (Jason) Turney, Angela Crisp, Chris (Kristan) Curtis, Lee Curtis, and Rhonda (Nathan) Nava; and seventeen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends that will miss her very much.
