Gainesville, MO. – Despite setbacks to the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office to address the lack of funds they were dealing with in 2022, things seem to be steadily improving in 2023. Ozark County Sheriff Cass Martin stepped into the studio to talk to us about how things are going when compared to the troubles of last year.
Last year, the Sheriff’s Office, which is the only real law enforcement for the entirety of Ozark County, dealt with layoffs to large parts of their staff. In addition, repair problems were showing their face at the local jail, which was suffering from aged infrastructure; a surprisingly common problem in the Ozarks. In places, the leaks were so bad that light fixtures in the facility were filled with water on a rainy day.
This year, a new roof has been constructed for the jail and while staff is not where they’d like it to be, has improved from last year’s conditions. Sheriff Martin further stated that God has really been on their side since 2022, and that while the budget hasn’t fully recovered, views are optimistic that things are improving in Ozark County.
