Two injured in Centerville crash Thursday morning

West Plains, MO. – An elderly pair from Centerville were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Thursday morning. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Highway 21, two miles north of Centerville at 10 a.m.

A northbound Ford Taurus driven by 95-year-old Columbus Sumpter of Centerville crossed the center of the roadway and into the path of a southbound Ford F250 driven by Lowell Tune, age 27 of Houston, Missouri. The crash totaled the car and dealt extensive damage to the truck.

Sumpter and his passenger, Eula Sumpter, age 86 of Centerville, received serious injuries in the crash. Eula was taken by air ambulance to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis for treatment and Columbus was transported by ground ambulance to Iron County Hospital. Tune was not reported as being injured in the crash.
