Two Arrested for Involvement in Assault That Put Victim in a Coma

Ava, MO. – On Monday, October 23rd, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals for their part in a burglary and assault that left one victim in a coma.

This started when the Christian County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office regarding an individual who had been beaten to the point he was in a coma. Evidence pointed to the assault having taken place in Douglas County. Investigation revealed a second victim had been assaulted as well, and that the event took place near County Road 537 in the Goodhope area.

According to the probable cause affidavit, evidence was found on location, which included traces of blood and numerous stolen items. Howard Applegate was taken into custody as the primary suspect in the assault. In addition, Kelsey Regennitter was taken into custody for her involvement in the case.

According to Missouri Case Net, Applegate is facing criminal charges that include two counts of Felony 1st Degree Assault, one count of Felony 1st Degree Burglary, one count of Felony Stealing – $750 or more, and one count of Felony Tampering with Physical Evidence in a Felony Prosecution.

Applegate is also a suspect in the shooting death of Lance Terril in 2017.
