Roy Elton Pigg, 92-year-old, lifelong resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Wednesday, November 15, 2023. He was born March 23, 1931, in Pine, MO, to the late Willie and Dorothy Irene (Whitwell) Pigg.
Roy had seen countless changes during his 92-year life span and enjoyed sharing stories of the “good old days” with his family and friends. There were also stories which focused on some of his favorite hobbies including fishing, hunting, and hunting dogs. Favorite hangouts with his storytelling buddies included West Y and Town and Country, where coffee and stories flowed. Roy had been a printer and type setter. He had also worked as a mail carrier and bus driver for the Doniphan School District. He enjoyed attending the high school basketball and baseball games. He was of the Baptist faith and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. Roy served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955.
On July 3, 1964, Roy married Rowena Payne in Doniphan, and she survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Patricia Ferguson of Doniphan; three grandchildren, Rebecca Ferguson, Kaitlyn (Josh) Stromatt, and Derek Ferguson; and one great-grandchild, Willow, with another on the way. Surviving also is Caitlin Carlile, who was raised like a granddaughter, and her son, Maverick Jones.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by all his siblings which include his sister, Elsie Elizabeth Smith, and brothers, Franklin Dea, Sherman Wayne, and Allen Pigg.
Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, November 18, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at noon. Brother John Payne will be officiating, and burial will be in Hunt-White Cemetery.
