Gainesville, MO. – Ozark County Commissioners have announced that this year will be their third effort to pass an internet use tax later this April 2nd.
This use tax was put on ballots in both 2020 and 2022, and both times was voted down by the public. This proposed tax would give the county the ability to collect on internet sales at a rate of 2%, which is the same as the sales tax put into place at physical locations.
A big reason for this proposed tax is not only the funding that would go to county on the tax itself, but also grants that are associated with it. The tax is intended to be spread between general revenue at 50%, and to road infrastructure and law enforcement at 25% each.
Expected income from this tax is set at an estimated $250,000 annually.
