West Plains, MO. – A recent scare within the West Plains area revolved around the idea of school threats made last week. Official statements on the case have deemed the threats to be fake, and both the West Plains Public School System and the West Plains Police Department have both recently released statements regarding the issue. Read below for both.
West Plains School Statement:
Dear West Plains School District Parents,
Tonight, the West Plains School District was contacted by a concerned parent regarding a security issue. After district administration notified law enforcement and initiated an investigation, it was deemed a fake threat. It originated as a screenshot sourced from another school district’s website out of state earlier today and then disseminated by a West Plains Middle School student via SnapChat.
To prevent future false threats, we encourage you to use this incident as an example and talk with your family about the serious consequences of posting and reposting fake threats on social media.
We sincerely appreciate the cooperation and partnership of our community as we work diligently to maintain a safe and secure environment for all students and staff members. We do encourage both parents and students to share any information with law enforcement that they receive.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and commitment to the safety of our school community.
Thank you,
Dr. Wesley Davis
Superintendent
