Jackson County residents decisively rejected a sales tax proposal to finance a new Royals downtown ballpark and upgrade Arrowhead Stadium. Royals owner John Sherman and Chiefs president Mark Donovan foresaw the outcome well before the vote, as over 58% of voters opposed the plan. The proposal aimed to replace an existing sales tax with a similar one for the next 40 years, which currently funds maintenance for the Truman Sports Complex housing Kauffman and Arrowhead Stadiums for over five decades.
