New Head of Missouri Department of Conservation Announced

Jefferson City, MO. – Last week on Friday, Governor Mike Parson officially announced the new head of the Missouri Department of Conservation, Jason Sumners. This new change of office will be effective beginning June 1st.

Sumners’ previous experience with the MDC is in the role of Deputy Director of Resource Management, leading the regulations committee, serving as the chief of the Wildlife Division and Science Branch chief, being a private lands deer biologist, and the head of the state’s deer management program. He was even involved in taking part in Missouri’s efforts to reintroduce elk to the state, as well as the CWD management and surveillance strategy.

On the change of position from the previous head of the MDC, Governor Parson had this to say in his release:

“We congratulate Jason on being named the new MDC Director and thank the Conservation Commission for its thoughtful and thorough search to replace Director Pauley,” Parson continues, “While we’ll miss Sara’s leadership, we look forward to Jason using his unique qualifications to build upon Missouri’s rich history of fish, forest, and wildlife preservation. MDC is one of the best departments in the nation, and we thank Jason for his commitment to continuing that legacy as a member of our cabinet.”

Sumners is a Lincoln, Missouri native, but now lives in Hartsburg, Missouri.
