Many sections of our local listening area have been seeing large amounts of rainfall over the past few days, with the most recent bout squarely putting many counties in the listening area under a flood warning.
Many of these warnings will continue to be in-effect until around 9pm tonight. With that, we’d like to remind everyone to keep in mind good driving caution when it comes to low-water crossings that are common across the Ozarks. These areas can quickly become impassable with even a small current running through.
Keep in mind: vehicles can hydroplane when only a quarter inch of water is present, and six inches of water can often be enough to sweep a vehicle off of a roadway. When you come across a flooded roadway, remember the phrase “turn around, don’t drown”. Not taking extra time to get to your route isn’t worth the risk to your vehicle or your life.
As of this morning, MoDOT also released this travelers map, indicating that 80 roads in Missouri have been closed due to flooding. Remember you can find the latest traveler map information by going online to https://traveler.modot.org/map/index.html.
