Missouri – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is testing for new troopers and is encouraging all qualified individuals to apply. Testing will be offered in nine different locations in Missouri and the individuals who complete the testing will be selected to continue the process for the 123rd Recruit Class. The training is scheduled to start on January 2, 2025.
The selection process is a multi-phase testing procedure that includes a written exam, physical fitness for duty assessment, a polygraph exam, a background investigation, and an oral interview board. The written and physical exams will take place in each troop area. After the offer of employment, the applicant must take a medical examination (for vision and hearing), a psychological exam, a psychological interview, a drug screening, and a final applicant review.
To be eligible, individuals must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent and be at least 21 years after graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy. Candidates are allowed to have tattoos or brands as long as they are not depicting criminal behavior, drug usage, nudity, profanity, bigotry, or subversive groups, and they cannot be located on the head, neck, hands, wrists, or any body part visible during everyday performance.
The starting salary for a trooper is $57,984. Following the first three years of service, the salary is increased to $65,112. There can be additional salary increases for a trooper in 15 years of service until the maximum salary of $88,464 is reached.
