Robert Harry Carr, son of Harry and Sara Carr was born September 6, 1932, in Silvara, Pennsylvania. He departed this life Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his home in Mansfield, Missouri, at the age of 91 years, 9 month, and 26 days of age.
On October 18, 1955, Robert was united in marriage to Martha Headings. Two sons and two daughters were born to this union.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, an infant son, Ronald Lee Carr, his parents, and his brother, Harold Carr.
Robert is survived by one sister, Ruth Steinhilber; one son, Robert Carr, Jr and wife, Julie, of Windsor, Missouri; two daughters, Anita Carr of Springfield, Missouri, and Terri Vawter and husband, Keith, of Mansfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Nathan Carr and wife, Brandy, of Canyon, Texas, Sarah Highley and husband, Josh, of Kearney, Missouri, Jeff Carr and wife, Monica, of Jefferson City, Missouri, Andy Carr and wife, Bailey, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Josh Slater and wife, Abby, of ManAssus, Virginia, Greg Short and wife, Amber, of Mansfield, Missouri, Scott Short and wife, Kylie, of Seymour, Missouri, and Laura Wagner of Springfield, Missouri, 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
Robert was born in his grandpa’s house in Silvara, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Skinners Eddy, Pennsylvania, where he worked on a dairy farm and at his dad’s sawmill. He graduated from Laceyville High School with honors.
He joined the Seabees branch of the Navy in 1951, and went to boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois. Robert served in many different positions reaching the rank of Master Chief. He was a Vietnam veteran and served in many countries. In 1966, Robert and Martha bought their home in Mansfield, Missouri. They were stationed in Kenitra, Morocco, and Gulf Port, Mississippi, and returned to Mansfield in 1970. Robert retired in 1971 with 20 years in the military.
Robert worked at Cooper Lumber Company, the Quarry, and drove the school bus before going into truck driving. He drove a truck for 24 years and retired from that in 1996. Robert and Martha bought their first bison calf pair in 1988 and raised bison for 28 years. They were the founding members of the Missouri Bison Association.
Robert attended the Methodist Church and had gone through confirmation classes as a young man.
Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, caring neighbor, and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the wonderful memories he created for his family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in Brighton, Missouri.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
