Howell County, MO. – The Howell County Sheriff’s Office recently announced that they will be implementing “Safe Exchange Zone” parking spaces at the Sheriff’s Office and substations. All the substations include Willow Springs, Mountain View, Caulfield, and, maybe in the future, Brandsville.
The Safe Exchange Zones will be available to the public free of charge and you do not have to have an appointment to use the zone. A Safe Exchange Zone is an assigned parking area that will be marked with a special parking sign. These designated areas will be under 24-hour surveillance and will be used as a safe place for individuals to complete transactions for legal items purchased from others online or through private sales. It will also serve as a neutral area for the safe pick-up and drop-off of children during parental visitation exchanges.
Some items will not be allowed in the Safety Exchange Zone including firearms or other weapons, narcotics, and hazardous materials.
A reminder from the Howell County Sheriff’s Office warns people to remember to notify a friend or family member of their plans and whereabouts, complete transactions during daylight hours, and trust their instincts. If something feels wrong, leave the area and contact law enforcement.
