Howell County, MO. – The Howell County Sheriff’s Office announced that on August 10, 2024, the Howell County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division discovered skeletal remains in rural Howell County, Missouri.
Due to the complexity of the scene, and the inclement weather, Howell County Patrol Deputies and Troopers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol maintained 24-hour coverage on the scene until the skeletal remains were fully recovered. They finally got the entire skeleton out on August 14, 2024.
Identification of the remains has not been determined, and an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted before the remains are sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Laboratory for identification. The Sheriff’s office is asking for patience while they identify the body, as it will take time. As soon as the remains are identified an update will be available.
The Missouri Highway Patrol, West Plains Police Department, West Plains Fire Department, Howell County Coroner’s Office, The Howell County Prosecutor’s Office, Howell County Road and Bridge, South Howell EMS, South Eastern Missouri State Anthropology Department, and the Investigators and Deputies from Fulton County, and Sharp County Arkansas all reported to the scene to help recover the remains.
