Vivian Lakey Smith

Vivian Lorene (Lakey) Smith, age 95 of El Dorado, AR, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home of El Dorado.

Vivian was born on December 26, 1928 in Norwood, MO, the oldest child of Thomas Lakey and Minnie Owen (Hutchison) Lakey. 

 

She graduated from Ava High School in Ava, Missouri, in the class of 1947.  Mrs. Smith worked as a secretary after graduation from high school.  Vivian was united in marriage to Frank Darnell Smith on October 10, 1956, and to this union one child was born.  From 1967 until 1993 when she retired, Mrs. Smith worked as a clerk in the Natural Resources Department of Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

 

Mrs. Smith enjoyed family, grandchildren, and travel.  She was very artistic and creative.  She used these talents to make China dolls and sew.  She was a faithful Christian and member of College Avenue Church of Christ in El Dorado, Arkansas.  The highlight of her week was getting to be at church on Sunday or anytime with her family.  Mrs. Smith loved her Missouri heritage and family history.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband, Frank Darnell Smith.

 

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Garrett and husband Bret of El Dorado, two grandsons, Jared Garrett (Lluvia) and Lance Garrett, a brother, Vernon Lakey (Betty) of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

There will be a register book available from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September, 19, 2024 at Bailey Funeral Home, for those who would like to sign the register book.

A time of visitation, followed by a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Denlow Cemetery in Denlow, Missouri, with Bret Garrett officiating.  Any and all family and friends are welcome to attend.  Funeral arrangements were provided by Bailey Funeral Home in El Dorado, Arkansas, and Clinkingbeard Funeral Homes, Inc. in Ava, Missouri.
