More than 100 volleyball games were played over the weekend in Cape Girardeau, but in the end, it was Class 1 Winona who took the crown. Winona quietly made its way to the finals with wins over Advance and Valle Catholic to reach the championship game In the first set, the Wildcats comfortably beat Cape Central 25-17. Winona had a chance to end it with a lead in the second set on match point, but the Tigers rebounded to even things at 1-1 with a 26-24 set win. In the final set, the pendulum swung back and forth with both teams tied at 23. Eventually, Winona sent a ball over to Cape, with the ball bouncing sideways and out of play to give the Wildcats the lead. Then a spike out of bounds to give Winona the win.
