Howl-O-Ween Scary And Hairy Fest For Dogs And Zombies Taking Place This Weekend

Mountain Home, AR – The Howl-o-Week Scary and Hairy Fest will take place this Sunday afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m. on the campus of ASU-Mountain Home. The event will feature two main activities: a dog costume contest at 2 p.m. and a Zombie Run 5K starting at 3 p.m. The fest is hosted by Lucky Dawg Rescue and C12 Athletics.

To enter the dog costume contest, participants must make a $20 donation, payable in cash or by check to Lucky Dawg Rescue Inc. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including Cutest Costume, Scariest Costume, Funniest Costume, and Dynamic Duo for pet owners who dress up alongside their pets. Winners from each category will then compete for the Top Dog Grand Prize. Sweet Tea Photography will be on-site, offering photo packages for $10, with photos delivered before Halloween. Prize winners will also receive gift certificates from local businesses such as Rapp’s Barren Brewing and 201 Pet Salon.

The Zombie Run 5K has a $35 entry fee. During the race, runners will carry flags that “zombies” will attempt to grab. The first runner to cross the finish line with their flag intact will win a three-month gift certificate to C12 Athletics. The first full team to finish with at least one member still holding their flag will also receive a gift certificate. For safety reasons, dogs are not permitted in the run.

Parking for the dog costume contest will be available to the right of the college entrance off Highway 62, and parking for the Zombie Run 5K will be located in front of Gotaas Hall. All dogs must remain on a leash throughout the event.

Lucky Dawg Rescue Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to rehoming local dogs and cats and providing food and supplies for animals in need. At their last event, three animals found their forever homes.
