Grizzly Basketball face the heat in first Culver Classic match vs the DMACC Bears

The Missouri State West Plains Grizzly Basketball team played their first game as they traveled to Burlington Iowa for two games (Today’s & Tomorrow) Facing first, The Des Moines, DMMAC Bears. Grizzlies fell to the Bears by a Score of 86 to 78

1st Half After the tip, #33 Lionel Kiumwimba hits a bucket for The Grizzlies. #1 Da’Shon Fisher  for The Bears scores on a three-pointer. Shawn Glass for the Grizzlies try to play a three for three with a few trips up the court. A score by Da’Shon Fisher on a nice jumper for the Bears. Zaheem Jackson for the Grizzlies scores on a three for the Grizzlies and a nice jumper off the side of the timeline. Early in the Quarter- Grizzlies have the lead 9-7. After a three pointer each from both the Bears & The Grizzlies (#15, Jackson for the Grizzlies & #24, Jamal Ambrose for the Bears) the score goes up to 15-11. #15, Jackson for the Grizzlies gets the chance to shoot a few free-throws and makes two out of three. After some passes down the floor, JD Roach scores for The Grizzlies. Also a bucket for  #11, Javian Downey. Jamal Ambrose for the Bears gets some free throws in, all three are good. As the Grizzlies play some good offense, they luckily get back to a two point lead after being down towards the middle by at least three. However much like last season, the main threat for the Grizzlies thus far is turnovers as there are about four with under 7:00 to go. A good play by #1,  Ryan Richardson, another scorer for the Grizzlies in the First half. This breaks a 27-27 tie that had lasted a span of at least a minute. #10 Jake Sage for a nice three. With about 2:58 to go, the Bears have a 32-25 lead over The Grizzlies. DMMAC controls the pressure as they get a short lived two point lead. It is soon tied, but Richardson for the Grizzlies gets the Grizzlies up by two going into the last minute or so of the Half. But eventually, a nice layup by the Bears brings both teams to a 38- 38 tie at the Half

HALFTIME- MSU-WP Grizzlies/ DMMAC Bears: 38

2nd Half: Grizzlies take a 4 point lead with a scoring by #13, Ethan Smith and a good three pointer by #3, Andrew Austin for the Bears. Within a minute or two, the Grizzlies already had two turnovers. A two hander by Jayden Roach off a pass by Jackson gives the Grizzlies a few more points. Grizzlies are sufficiently making up for some losses. Roach came in hot into the second half, doing some great passes for the Grizzlies. Zaheem Jackson nearly tries to go for a three. Rebound by DMMAC. The Bears have the lead 51-47. # 1, Dylan Omewenu shoots a three for The Bears. Both teams made frequent substitutions upon scoring. #2, Riley Whitaker for the Grizzlies with a Three Pointer. Score is 58-53 with under 10:00 to go. Grizzlies are making up for turnovers with some good score attempts. #33, Lionel Kiumwimba goes to the throw line and misses at the throw line on the attempt. However: #15, Zaheem Jackson does gets an attempt with one good throw; this brings the Grizzlies to within five of the Bears. However, DMMAC does take back off with some scoring by Omweno and Ambrose for the Bears. With 6:35 to go, The Bears have a 58-64 lead over the Grizzlies. Bears make a few more buckets offside and about three three pointers bringing them out to a nine point lead. Grizzlies come back with a few baskets but still are in a dyer need for a stop. After some more scoring by the DMMAC Bears, DMMAC Pulls out the win 86-78.

FINAL SCORE- DMMAC Bears: 86/ MSU- WP Grizzlies: 76
