Grizzlies get a win during first home game of the Basketball Season

The Missouri State West Plains Grizzlies hosted their first home game of the Basketball season and faced Link Year Prep. The game was victorious as the Grizzlies took an 85-60 win and their first win of the season.

1st Half- A technical foul begins the ballgame for the Grizzlies . Grizzlies jump center on the hands of #13, Ethan Fisher. Link takes an early 4-0 score, Two three pointers for each team; one by #32, Dillinger for Link & one attempted by #15, Zaheem Jackson for the Grizzlies. The first successful three pointer is taken for the Grizzlies by #12, Ergie Kougnami. Though Grizzlies making some good shots, turnovers are hurting them early in the game. Link Year Prep does take another set of fouls. This allows Kougnami to go to the free-throw line for the Grizzlies, who makes one good free-throw. A few good shots taken by #15, Jackson for the Grizzlies are able to bring them to a short lived one point lead. This is broken by a good shot from #10, Ba for Link Year Prep. #14, Roach for the Grizzlies is able to rebound and take a great shot that was originally tried by #10, Jake Sage. WIth under 11 min, #2 Riley Whitacker is able to make an easy jumper giving the Grizzlies another short lived, two point lead. #11, Javian Downey goes to the Free-Throw line for the Grizzlies; First is no good, second is good. This brings up a 15-15 for both teams. Zaheem Jackson also shoots at the throw line with one missed and one good free-throw. Kougnami shoots a two on the rebound after Link loses the ball offside. Grizzlies now have the lead with 8:27 to go, 18-15. Another good jump shot is good for Jackson as well as a good two pointer for #33, Lionel Kiumwimba. With 6:42 to go, Grizzlies still have the lead 20-15.  DIllinger scores on a jumper for Link Year Prep. A good three pointer for #3, Jonathan White. #14, Jayden Roach shoots two at the Free-Throw line for the Grizzlies. Both of which are good. With 4:48 to go; Grizzlies now have the lead 25-17. A good play by #11, Javian Downey from the far side. A layup is good for #3, Jonathan White. Grizzlies now have gone two a tie during the halfway mark of a game to a twelve point lead, 29-17. White also scores on a good layup on the rebound. #5 Shaun Glass scores his first basket of the night as time is now 3.00.Throughout the last few minutes; Another good set of two pointers for #15, Jackson & a few baskets for leading scorer, Ba for Link Year Prep. 

HALFTIME- MSU-West Plains Grizzlies; 33/ Link Year Prep: 27

2nd Half: Grizzlies start with a half court trap. Jackson tries for a three, no good. However; Ba shoots a good three for Link Year Prep. #1, Richardson tries a Three but no good, wiggles out of the rim. Link Year Prep evens up the number of baskets and brings the score to 34-38, but still have at least 13 turnovers. A good jumper by #14, Roach for the Grizzlies brings the score to 40-38. #12, Koungnami scores on a three and instantly, Grizzlies are back to a ten point lead. On defense, #32 Dillinger stands guard for Link Year Prep and is able to get the ball away from the Grizzlies scoring on a two. #11, Javian Downey rebounds it and puts the ball back up and in for the Grizzlies. Downey also gets a free-throw attempt. The 6”3 guard makes both of his free-throws. With 12:05 to go; Grizzlies lead 56-39. #33, Kiumwimba is able score on a putback of the hands of #5, Glass. Glass redeems this though and scores on a good three. Grizzlies are also able to keep the ball on the rebound. #13, Ethan Smith scores on a nice jump shot for the Grizzlies. With 8:20 to go, Grizzly lead 65-48. #2, Jonathan White scores on a three ; this is the fourth three pointer for the Grizzlies in the second half. #1, Wyatt Carr scores two at the Throw-Line for Link Year Prep, giving them four more points. #10, Jake Sage shoots two at the line for the Grizzlies with under 3:40 to go, both are good. By this point, the Grizzlies have outscored Link Year Prep by twenty. Sage makes another impressive, 10- foot jump shot which is almost blocked. #4 Tomlinson scores on a jumper. As the Grizzlies play out the clock, they outscore Link Year Prep by a score of Final Score 85-60. 

Next home Game for the Grizzlies will be on Tuesday, November 19th @ 7 PM  as they will take on The Aviators from Arkansas State University- Newport. 

Next overall game will be this Friday at 1 PM @ Moberly Area Community College, where they will face the Wabash Valley Warriors.
